OUR STORY
Veterans and Honeybees
Dean and Kathee met while serving in the United States Air Force. They married in 1994 and raised two amazing daughters while serving their country for over 20 years. Dean sustained a traumatic brain injury while serving in Iraq and was medically retired as a Wounded Warrior in 2020. He started beekeeping in their backyard and quickly discovered many personal mental and physical benefits from his hobby. As our apiary continues to grow we hope to mentor others who can benefit from what we have learned and enjoy the sweet local honey our honeybees provide.
ABOUT A HEROS HONEY
We are a small, family owned honeybee apiary in Goldsboro, North Carolina. Dean started beekeeping as a hobby but found working with the bees to be therapeutic. He loves learning from the bees and sharing this knowledge with others. Dean mentors other disabled veterans who want to learn to be beekeepers. As the apiary grows he accepts additional mentees to help the bees stay healthy and extract honey. We hope to help veterans through mentorship and our community by providing educational outreach about the phenomenal honeybee!
